Hello, and welcome! I am Mary Burress, a candidate for Illinois State Senate in the 46th District, which covers most of Fulton, Tazewell, and Peoria Counties. I have lived in our community for over 40 years. I was married to my late husband, Bob, in 1988, raised two wonderful kids, and built a life for our family. Like all of us, life had its ups and downs, but we always could count on our friends and neighbors to help us through. Now is a time to rely on our community more than ever.
My husband and I were always active in our community, Bob being a full-time police officer in Pekin and myself working for many years in the Tazewell County Treasure's office. As time went on, Bob and I were active in the Republican Party, becoming the GOP chair of Tazewell County and eventually running for office - becoming the first Republican woman elected to the office of Treasurer of Tazewell County. I have been re-elected twice more and am serving in my third term. Bob retired as police chief in 1995 and remained active in many capacities but passed away in November of 2018.
